How to cruise more without spending more Cruises are already one of the best vacation values, but if you know a few insider tricks, you can save even more money without giving up the fun. Over the years I’ve learned that the difference between an expensive cruise and a great deal usually comes down to timing, cabin choice, and knowing what you actually need (and what you don’t). Here are my favorite cruise money-saving tips that I share with my clients so they can travel more often without blowing the budget.

Seas the day

Book Early of Very Late
Cruise prices change all the time, and the cheapest price isn’t always last minute.
- Booking early gives you the best cabin choices
- Last-minute deals can be cheap, but options are limited
- Popular ships and dates go up in price fast
If you want the best mix of price + choice, book early and watch for deals.

Cruise during the cheapest times of the year
Cruise prices depend a lot on the season.
Cheapest times to cruise:
- January (after holidays)
- February (except Presidents week)
- Late April / early May
- September
- Early December
Most expensive times:
- Summer
- Spring break
- Christmas / New Year
- Thanksgiving
If your schedule is flexible, you can save hundreds.
Choose the right cabin
The cheapest cabin isn’t always the best deal.
Sometimes upgrading slightly:
- gets a better location
- avoids noise
- gives more space
- makes the trip more enjoyable
Interior cabins save money, but balcony cabins are often worth it on longer cruises.
I always help my clients pick the best value cabin, not just the lowest price.

Don’t Buy Every Add-On
Cruise lines will try to sell you everything.
You don’t always need:
- Drink packages
- Specialty dining
- WiFi packages
- Spa passes
- Photo packages
Sometimes these are worth it, sometimes they aren’t.
The trick is knowing what YOU will actually use.
Sail from a port you can drive from
Flights can cost more than the cruise.
If you live in Florida (like me), you can save a lot by sailing from:
- Miami
- Port Canaveral
- Tampa
- Fort Lauderdale
- Jacksonville
Driving to the port = big savings.

Watch for wave season deals
Wave season is the best time to book cruises.
Wave season = January – March
This is when cruise lines offer:
- Reduced deposits
- Free upgrades
- Free drink packages
- Onboard credit
- Kids sail free deals
Most of my clients book during wave season.
pack smart to avoid extra cost
Forgetting things can get expensive onboard.
Bring:
- Sunscreen
- Medicine
- Motion sickness remedies
- Power strip (no surge protector)
- Reusable water bottle
Ship prices are always higher.

Pick the right itinerary
Some itineraries cost more than others.
Usually cheaper:
- Bahamas
- Western Caribbean
- Short cruises
Usually more expensive:
- Southern Caribbean
- Alaska
- Europe
- Holiday sailings
You can save money just by picking the right route.
Cruise Smarter, Travel More
At the end of the day, cruising more often isn’t about cutting out everything that makes vacation fun it’s about spending smarter on the things that actually matter to you. Being flexible with your dates, choosing the right cabin, watching for deals, and skipping the extras you don’t really need can leave more money in your budget for your next adventure.
Because I’d rather take two amazing cruises than blow the entire travel budget on one.
Plan smart, spend where it counts, and start thinking about where you want to sail next.
More cruises. More memories. More ocean.
